Ιππότης χρίστηκε, σε ειδική τελετή στο παλάτι του Μπάκιγχαμ, ο Μπάρι Γκιμπ των Bee Gees.  Ο τραγουδιστής του δημοφιλούς συγκροτήματος της Ποπ-Ντίσκο μουσικής, που έκανε μεγάλη επιτυχία τη δεκαετία του ’70, εξέφρασε την ελπίδα οι εκλιπόντες αδελφοί του Ρόμπιν και Μόρις να είναι περήφανοι γι’ αυτόν.

Τραγούδια όπως τα «Stayin’ Alive», «Night Fever», «How Deep is Your Love», «You should be dancing», «If I can’t have you» και «Tragedy» έκαναν το συγκρότημα ιδιαίτερα αγαπητό στους φίλους της μουσικής.

Οι Bee Gees δημιουργήθηκαν το 1958 από τους αδελφούς Μπάρι, Ρόμπιν και Μόρις, με τον Μπάρι Γκιμπ να είναι σήμερα το μόνο εν ζωή μέλος του συγκροτήματος από τα τρία αδέλφια. Στη διάρκεια της τελετής στα Ανάκτορα του Μπάκιγχαμ, ο διάσημος τραγουδιστής χρίστηκε ιππότης από τον πρίγκιπα Κάρολο, ο οποίος ένστολος ακολουθώντας το παραδοσιακό τελετουργικό ακούμπησε το σπαθί του στον ώμο του καλλιτέχνη, δίδοντάς του τον τίτλο του Σερ για τη συνεισφορά του στη μουσική, καθώς και για το φιλανθρωπικό του έργο.

«Αν δεν ήταν οι αδερφοί μου, δεν θα βρισκόμουν εδώ», είπε μετά την ολοκλήρωση του τελετουργικού ο τραγουδιστής, τραγουδοποιός, μουσικός και δισκογραφικός παραγωγός, ηλικίας 71 ετών.

«Είναι η ανώτερη αναγνώριση που μπορεί να σου δώσει ο πολιτισμός σου και είναι κάτι για το οποίο είμαι εξαιρετικά περήφανος», ανέφερε ο Σερ Γκιμπ για την τιμή που του αποδόθηκε, ενώ χαρακτήρισε το γεγονός ότι χρίστηκε ιππότης ως μια «λίγο σουρεαλιστική τιμή» στο πρόσωπο του.

Οι αδερφοί Γκιμπ γεννήθηκαν στη Νήσο του Μαν, μεγάλωσαν στο Μάντσεστερ και δημιούργησαν το συγκρότημα, όταν μετανάστευσαν στο Κουίνσλαντ της Αυστραλίας. Επέστρεψαν στην Αγγλία το 1967 για να κατακτήσουν με τον τρόπο τους τον κόσμο της μουσικής.

Ο Μόρις Γκιμπ έφυγε από τη ζωή το 2003 και ο δίδυμός αδερφός του, Ρόμπιν το 2012.
