Ο αριθμός των νεκρών αυξήθηκε αργά το βράδυ του Σαββάτου στους 39, ενώ οι τραυματίες έχουν ξεπεράσει τους 900. Τη Σμύρνη επισκέφθηκε ο Τούρκος πρόεδρος Ταγίπ Ερντογάν, ο οποίος παρακολούθησε από κοντά την επιχείρηση διάσωσης στην 9όροφη πολυκατοικία που κατέρρευσε, συνομίλησε με διασώστες και υποσχέθηκε σπίτια στους άστεγους.

23 ώρες μετά τον φονικό σεισμό, οι διασώστες στο Μπαϊρακλί κάνουν αγώνα δρόμου για να απεγκλωβίσουν παγιδευμένους στα συντρίμμια. Μέχρι στιγμής απεγκλώβισαν 4 μέλη της ίδιας οικογένειας: τη μητέρα, τα 10χρονα δίδυμα κοριτσάκια και τον 7χρονο γιο. Μετά από πολύωρες προσπάθειες, ανασύρθηκε ζωντανή και η 16χρονη Ιντζέ μαζί με το σκύλο της. Μέχρι στιγμής 104 άνθρωποι έχουν ανασυρθεί ζωντανοί από τα συντρίμμια, ενώ άγνωστος παραμένει ο ακριβής αριθμός των εγκλωβισμένων στα κτήρια που έχουν καταρρεύσει, σύμφωνα με τον Τούρκο υπουργό Περιβάλλοντος, Μουράτ Κουρούμ.
Οι συχνοί μετασεισμοί αναγκάζουν τα σωστικά συνεργεία να διακόπτουν τις εργασίες διάσωσης.
