Εξήντα πολυώροφα κτίρια απέτυχαν στους ελέγχους ασφαλείας, οι οποίοι έγιναν μετά την πυρκαγιά που στοίχισε την ζωή σε 79 ανθρώπους στο Λονδίνο.

Οι ασφαλιστικές εταιρείες είχαν προειδοποιήσει τη βρετανική κυβέρνηση για τους κινδύνους του εύφλεκτου υλικού επένδυσης σε κτίρια ένα μήνα πριν ξεσπάσει η πυρκαγιά στον Πύργο Γκρένφελ, την πολυκατοικία-ουρανοξύστη του Λονδίνου που κάηκε ολοσχερώς και κόστισε τη ζωή σε τουλάχιστον 79 άτομα, σύμφωνα με άρθρο της εφημερίδας Financial Times.

Η Ένωση Βρετανών Ασφαλιστών είπε σε υπουργούς τον Μάιο ότι οι πεπαλαιωμένοι κανονισμοί οικοδόμησης θα πρέπει να επανεξεταστούν γιατί δεν ήταν επικαιροποιημένοι σύμφωνα με τις νέες μεθόδους δόμησης, που συμπεριλαμβάνουν την εγκατάσταση εύφλεκτων επιφανειών, ανέφερε η εφημερίδα.

Η βρετανική κυβέρνηση είπε χθες ότι 60 ουρανοξύστες κατοικιών δεν πέρασαν τους ελέγχους ασφάλειας, μετά από τη φωτιά στο συγκρότημα Γκρένφελ στο δυτικό Λονδίνο στις 14 Ιουνίου.

Την Παρασκευή, περίπου 4.000 άτομα αναγκάστηκαν να εγκαταλείψουν τα σπίτια τους στο βόρειο Λονδίνο μετά από απόφαση της πυροσβεστικής που χαρακτήρισε τα οικοδομικά τετράγωνα γύρω από τον Πύργο μη ασφαλή.
