Ο πρόεδρος των ΗΠΑ Τζο Μπάιντεν χαιρέτισε την ψήφιση από τη Γερουσία του σχεδίου ανάκαμψης ύψους 1.900 δολαρίων το οποίο η χώρα “έχει απεγνωσμένα ανάγκη”, όπως τόνισε, για να εξέλθει από την κρίση που προκλήθηκε από την πανδημία του κορονοϊού.

“Κάναμε ένα τεράστιο βήμα” για να βοηθήσουμε τους Αμερικανούς, δήλωσε από τον Λευκό Οίκο ο αρχηγός του κράτους, του οποίου αυτό το μεγάλο σχέδιο στήριξης ήταν μια από τις προεκλογικές του υποσχέσεις.

Ο Μπάιντεν δήλωσε ότι η έγκριση του νομοσχεδίου για την ανακούφιση από την πανδημία σημαίνει ότι η πληρωμή 1.400 δολαρίων στους περισσότερους Αμερικανούς θα αρχίσουν να καταβάλλεται αυτόν τον μήνα και ότι οι διατάξεις του νομοσχεδίου θα επιταχύνουν την παραγωγή και τη διανομή των εμβολίων κατά της Covid-19.

Ο Μπάιντεν τόνισε ότι το 85% των Αμερικανικών νοικοκυριών θα λάβει τις πληρωμές, με ένα ζευγάρι που έχει δύο παιδιά και κερδίζει 100.000 δολάρια ετησίως να έχει να λαμβάνει περίπου 5.600 δολάρια.

Το νομοσχέδιο εγκρίθηκε χάρη στις ψήφους των Δημοκρατικών γερουσιαστών μόνο, λαμβάνοντας 50 ψήφους υπέρ έναντι 49. Το κείμενο θα επιστρέψει την επόμενη εβδομάδα στη Βουλή των Αντιπροσώπων όπου οι Δημοκρατικοί, που αποτελούν την πλειοψηφία, θα πρέπει να το εγκρίνουν γρήγορα, ώστε ο Τζο Μπάιντεν να μπορέσει να το επικυρώσει έως τις 14 Μαρτίου, πριν από την προβλεπόμενη αναστολή της καταβολής των επιδομάτων ανεργίας.
