Mία μεγάλη επιστημονική έρευνα για τη σχέση του αθλητισμού και των εφήβων ξεκινά το 2018 και την υλοποιούν κορυφαίοι Έλληνες επιστήμονες. Ο Γιώργος Χρούσος, καθηγητής Παιδιατρικής και Ενδοκρινολογίας – Διευθυντής Α’ Παιδιατρικής Κλινικής του νοσοκομείου Παίδων «Αγία Σοφία» και ο Παναγιώτης Σταματόπουλος, διδάκτωρ του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών – τέως διευθυντής του ΕΚΑΕ, μίλησαν στην εκπομπή της ΕΡΤ1 “Μαζί το Σαββατοκύριακο” για τη φιλόδοξη αυτή έρευνα.

Στο στούντιο επίσης φιλοξενήθηκαν οι αθλητές Χριστίνα Ανέστου και Χάρης Δερμιτζάκης οι οποίοι μίλησαν για την αγάπη τους για την κολύμβηση αλλά και τις προσπάθειές τους να φτάσουν την κορυφή.

Η πρωτοποριακή επιστημονική έρευνα για τη σχέση του αθλητισμού και των εφήβων, η μοναδική παγκοσμίως στα χρονικά,  υλοποιείται από τον Γενάρη του 2018 στο εργαστήριο μελέτης εφήβων-αθλητών του Νοσοκομείου Παίδων «Αγία Σοφία». Το πρόγραμμα στοχεύει στην ασφαλή άθληση των εφήβων ηλικίας 12-21 ετών και έχει ως άξονα τεκμηριωμένα και ασφαλή συμπεράσματα για κάθε άθλημα ξεχωριστά.
