Ηφαίστειο Sarychev: Εξερράγη 13 χρόνια πριν και εικόνες του από το διάστημα ακόμα σαγηνεύουν

Μια τυχαία τροχιά του Διεθνούς Διαστημικού Σταθμού επέτρεψε στους αστροναύτες να απολαύσουν την εντυπωσιακή θέα του ηφαιστείου Sarychev, το οποίο βρίσκεται στα νησιά Kuril, βορειοανατολικά της Ιαπωνίας, σε πρώιμο στάδιο έκρηξης στις 12 Ιουνίου 2009. Η κορυφή Sarychev είναι ένα από τα πιο ενεργά ηφαίστεια στην αλυσίδα του νησιού Kuril και συγκεκριμένα βρίσκεται στο βορειοδυτικό άκρο του νησιού Matua.

Η φωτογραφία που τραβήχτηκε από τον αστροναύτη είναι εκπληκτική, κυρίως όμως για τους ηφαιστειολόγους, διότι καταγράφει πολλά φαινόμενα που συμβαίνουν κατά τη διάρκεια των πρώτων σταδίων μιας ηφαιστειακής έκρηξης. Το λοφίο που φαίνεται στην κεντρική στήλη της έκρηξης, είναι ένας συνδυασμός καφέ τέφρας και λευκού ατμού. Το λοφίο αυτό δημιουργεί την ψευδαίσθηση μιας φυσαλίδας στην κορυφή του, γεγονός που κάνει την φωτογραφία ακόμη πιο εντυπωσιακή.

Η φωτογραφία αυτή τραβήχτηκε 13 ολόκληρα χρόνια πριν από τον Διεθνή Διαστημικό Σταθμό, χωρίς όμως να έχει χάσει καθόλου από τη μαγεία της.

Άλλη μια τέτοια εντυπωσιακή φωτογραφία έρχεται από την έκρηξη του ηφαιστείου Raikoke στη χερσόνησο Καμτσάκα στις Κουρίλες νήσους.
