Στον εκ νέου διορισμό για δεύτερη θητεία της Εκτελεστικής Διευθύντριας της Europol Κάθριν ντε Μπολλέ προχώρησε το Ευρωπαϊκό Συμβούλιο παρατείνοντας έτσι την περίοδο της θητείας της έως την 1η Μαΐου 2026.

Η παράταση βασίζεται σε διαδικασία που ακολουθεί την απόφαση του διοικητικού συμβουλίου της Europol από την 1η Μαΐου 2017, η οποία προβλέπει την παράταση της θητείας του Εκτελεστικού Διευθυντή της. Σύμφωνα με αυτή τη διαδικασία, το διοικητικό συμβούλιο της Europol είχε ενημερώσει το Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο ότι θα πρότεινε στο Συμβούλιο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης την παράταση της θητείας της Καθρίν ντε Μπόλλε.

Η Εκτελεστική Διευθύντρια της Europol διορίστηκε για πρώτη φορά με απόφαση του Συμβουλίου της 8ης Μαρτίου 2018 και η πρώτη θητεία της έληξε την 1η Μαΐου 2022. Η ίδια έχει υπηρετήσει στο παρελθόν ως Γενική Επίτροπος της Ομοσπονδιακής Αστυνομίας του Βελγίου από το 2012 έως το 2018. Ο εκτελεστικός διευθυντής της Europol διορίζεται για τετραετή περίοδο, η οποία μπορεί να παραταθεί μία φορά το σύμφωνα με το άρθρο 54 παράγραφος 4 του κανονισμού (ΕΕ) 2016/794.

Με έδρα τη Χάγη της Ολλανδίας, η Europol υποστηρίζει τα 27 κράτη μέλη της ΕΕ στον αγώνα τους κατά της τρομοκρατίας, του εγκλήματος στον κυβερνοχώρο και άλλων σοβαρών και οργανωμένων μορφών εγκλήματος.
