«Δεν θέλουμε καμιά χώρα της Ευρώπης να έχει κατοχικά στρατεύματα ή κάποιοι τρίτοι έξω από την Ευρώπη να εγγυώνται τα δικαιώματα κάποιου» δήλωσε ο υπουργός Εξωτερικών Νίκος Κοτζιάς, ο οποίος μαζί με τον Γερμανό ομόλογο του Φρανκ-Βάλτερ Σταϊνμάγιερ εγκαινίασε την Εκθεση με τίτλο «Διαιρεμένες Μνήμες» στο Μακεδονικό Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης στη Θεσσαλονίκη.
Ο κ. Κοτζιάς είπε ότι με τον κ. Σταϊμάγιερ θα συζητήσουν στην Αθήνα για την έγκριση ενός κοινού πλάνου δράσης φιλίας ανάμεσα στην Ελλάδα και τη Γερμανία και υπογράμμισε: «Εμείς λέμε ότι θέλουμε μια χώρα ανοιχτή σε όλους, με όλους τους πολιτισμούς ανοιχτούς. Πιστεύουμε βαθιά στον κανόνα του Δικαίου. Είμαστε μια σταθερή δύναμη που πιστεύει σε αυτό το εγχείρημα που λέγεται Ευρωπαϊκή Ενωση, που είναι ένα σύστημα Δικαίου. Είμαστε εμείς που ελπίζουμε, μαζί με τους Γερμανούς μας φίλους, ότι αυτό το εγχείρημα θα προχωρήσει και θα καταβάλλουμε κάθε προσπάθεια, ακόμα και στις πιο δύσκολες στιγμές, να κρατήσουμε ανοιχτό το δρόμο για μια Ευρώπη κοινωνικά δίκαιη, δημοκρατική, παράγοντα ειρήνης και ασφάλειας στον κόσμο και ισχυρή δύναμη στον 21ο αιώνα. Για να το κάνουμε αυτό πρέπει να έχουμε την καλή τη δημιουργική, την παραγωγική σχέση με τις τέχνες και την ιστορία, έτσι ώστε η ιστορία να είναι το σχολείο μας για το αύριο και όχι η φυλακή για το υπόλοιπο της ζωής μας».
