Το Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης παραμένει στη διάθεση της Πολιτείας για δράσεις που θα βοηθήσουν στην ανάπτυξη της περιοχής της Αμφίπολης αναφέρει ο πρύτανης του ΑΠΘ, Περικλής Μήτκας, με δήλωσή του στο ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ. Με αφορμή τη μη συμμετοχή του Πανεπιστημίου σε πρόγραμμα τουριστικής αξιοποίησης του μνημείου της Αμφίπολης στο πλαίσιο του Προγράμματος Ευρωπαϊκής Εδαφικής Συνεργασίας “Ελλάδα – Βουλγαρία 2014 -2020”, μετά την σχετική ανακοίνωση της υφυπουργού Εσωτερικών (Μακεδονίας – Θράκης), Μαρίας Κόλλια – Τσαρουχά, ο κ. Μήτκας αναφέρει στη δήλωσή του: «Το ΑΠΘ απουσιάζει από το πρόγραμμα παρ όλη την εξαρχής συμβολή του στις έρευνες, αλλά και τις προτάσεις, που έχει καταθέσει για την αξιοποίηση του χώρου. Θυμίζω ότι το Αριστοτέλειο έθεσε από την πρώτη στιγμή το σύνολο του επιστημονικού του δυναμικού στη διάθεση της ανασκαφής. Χρηματοδότησε εξ ιδίων πόρων τις διασκοπήσεις του Τύμβου Καστά και τη μελέτη για τη στήριξη των εδαφών, μελέτησε τα οστά που βρέθηκαν στο μνημείο και κατέθεσε προτάσεις για την ανάπτυξη της ευρύτερης περιοχής. Στο ΑΠΘ, σε μία εντυπωσιακή εκδήλωση με μεγάλη συμμετοχή, παρουσιάστηκε η ανασκαφική έρευνα στην Αμφίπολη, κατά το χρονικό διάστημα 2012 μέχρι και 2014. Το Πανεπιστήμιο παραμένει στη διάθεση της Πολιτείας για δράσεις που θα βοηθήσουν στην ανάπτυξη της περιοχής».
